Visions of well-being, a forward-looking
heritage
Hotel AXA, a Functionalist building designed and erected by
architect and master builder Václav Pilc in 1930-32, was
conceived as a multi-functional entity centred around the sports-oriented
Hotel AXA (25-m swimming pool, originally with a diving platform,
big and small gym). There were also commercial spaces such as
shops (the department store Jepa), restaurants and offices.
Rooms were equipped with functional furniture in the Bauhaus
style.
The sports concept was developed by the architect's wife, prof.
Běla Friedländerová - a top athlete who represented the First
Republic of Czechoslovakia in swimming and diving. She led
sports and physical education courses, which were mainly
intended for women and girls.
Today the heirs and descendants of Pilc and Friedländerová want
to build on this tradition of physical and mental balance and
health. They would like to welcome you in their hotel, with its
public pool and fitness center and the newly opened hotel
restaurant, which prepares fine, healthy dishes. In future the
owners and staff would like to continue in this direction and
develop AXA in its sports character and beyond, in an
ecologically sustainable way.
